5 Easy Nutrition Tips To Avoid Bad Lockdown Habits
Last updated on 1st April 2021 by Project U Fitness
Maintaining a healthy diet and proper eating habits whilst in lockdown can certainly be struggle.
Here are some of our top tips to help you put healthy eating into practice during these difficult times.
Work these into your daily meal routines over the next few weeks and see how much they can make a difference!
1. Portion Control
Have your portion sizes crept up, or are you serving yourself the same amount as your heavier/more active partner? Use this week to assess your portion sizes with a critical eye. If you cook too much, set some aside for tomorrow’s lunch.
2. Mindful Eating
The idea of mindful eating combines awareness with behavioural psychology to prevent overeating. Try taking a pause before you eat. Minimise distractions during meal times (TV, phone, screens) and really savour what you are eating. Allow your body to register what you’re eating before you go for seconds.
3. Eat More Vegetables
Vegetables are a no-brainer. Low in calories, filling, and packed with micronutrients like vitamins and antioxidants. Buy more vegetables and try a few new ones. Experiment with different ways of preparing veg (steamed, roasted, stir fried, raw, salads, soups…)
4. Get Enough Protein
Protein is the macronutrient that fills you up most, and helps you maintain muscle tissue and bone density. Make sure you eat a bit of protein with every meal and snack. Good sources include lean meat, fish, seafood, eggs, dairy, pulses, beans, and protein powder. Message me for specific guidance.
5. Don’t Buy What You Don’t Want To Eat!
If it’s in the house, you’re more likely to eat it. Plan your meals so you can food shop with a list. Don’t buy snacks, sweets, or your personal trigger foods. If you must have them in the house because of your partner or kids, keep them out of sight – on a high shelf, or in a container.
