You Don’t Have To Join A Gym

Why can’t I keep myself committed?

It all comes down to enjoyment.

Someone asked me the other day “Chris how do you do it?”

“Do what?” I asked.

“Keep people interested. I can’t stay interested in exercise long enough to see a difference.”

So I asked him, “Do you enjoy the exercise you’re doing?”

It’s as simple as that. Disregarding being accountable to goals or other commitments. If you don’t enjoy your exercise, you won’t carry on.

Ok, given – not all exercise is ‘enjoyable’ but in general, if you prefer a certain exercise or way of training, utilise it.

Obviously we need diversity in our exercise to ensure general fitness levels are balanced to some degree.

Taking me for example; I love weight training. My training is 85% weight training. But I’m also very aware I need to be fit across the board so I do supplement it with cardiovascular training and conditioning work.

I can’t say I enjoy it as much, but it’s not so hard to be motivated when I know tomorrow is a good ol’ leg session.

It’s exactly the same for you.

If you enjoy swimming, swim.

If you enjoy running, run.

Just know that being a jack of all trades in fitness is a massive benefit to injury prevention and general fitness. So don’t spend 7 hours running a week. Even mighty Mo does more than just run.

Anyway, to stay fit and healthy, do the exercise you enjoy. If you don’t enjoy any exercise, try doing it with someone that you’ll enjoy doing it with.

Results are enjoyable and the moment you see those results, you won’t be able to stop.
