Is Virtual Training The Future?

Anyone else bored of the lockdown yet? I’ve even taken to writing blogs?!

Is there a future in virtual training?

Short answer, yes.

How though?

Well, imagine you’ve signed up for a HIIT class and it starts at 7pm. You’ve weirdly been looking forward to it since yesterday. But work lands hard and heavy this morning and there is no way you’re getting home for 6:30pm to change and get over to the gym.

But it’s ok! Project U Fitness is streaming their class so you can join in!

Change of clothes and before you know it you’re doing burpees whilst your other half is trying to watch TV.

The kids have joined in and the dog licks your face every time you’re on the floor, but you haven’t missed HIIT and that’s the main thing (based on true events)!

Seriously though, we’d be missing a trick if we didn’t look at this as an opportunity to create a new avenue of distance based exercise. Not all people want, or need to be in a gym for personal training, exercise or classes.

It’s blown open the doors to a new approach. Although it’s not the same, it’s still progressive, results-driven exercise and it works.

It opens up the benefits of having a personal trainer. I think the good PT’s, the proactive ones, the creative, informed and passionate PT’s will stand out and provide a whole new service, with the same professional finish as their face to face sessions.

There’s no reason that without the support of your PT you can’t get great results at home.

I don’t think it’s a replacement, but it’s a damn good alternative and it works.

Why can’t you start your day with a half hour pilates session, then hit the gym, or go for a run later in the day? Most people’s excuse is “I don’t have time” but I think virtual training eliminates this and will help build fitter, healthier individuals as a result.

PT’s should be able to offer a lot more to clients… with pre recorded sessions, or 15minute video call check-ins.

Online coaching isn’t as personal, but it’s a huge supplement to personal training and there’s no reason the two can’t go hand in hand.
